Forensic archaeology uses archaeological skills to assist with the location and recovery of human remains and forensic evidence. Forensic anthropology is the analysis of human remains for the medico-legal and humanitarian purposes of establishing identity. Both play a key role in UK and international investigations in cases of inter-personal violence and homicide, repatriation, mass disasters, and war crimes. Many of our staff are forensic experts. They will help you gain a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the skills needed to search for, and recover, human remains in a number of different scenarios and analyse and interpret skeletal remains. You will learn how to write forensic archaeological and skeletal reports, and how these reports are used in the legal process, including presenting evidence as an expert witness in court. You will develop the practical skills and knowledge required by those who search for missing people and will be involved in the recovery of remains from clandestine burials. Careers: There is an international requirement for forensic archaeologists and forensic anthropologists who are competent in dealing with the location and recovery of human remains and forensic evidence in medico-legal and humanitarian roles. This course provides the skills to facilitate a career in the lab and field in forensic anthropology and forensic archaeology. You will also develop the skills to continue into academic research. Our graduates have gone on to roles in the following areas: academia teaching research museums forensic practice police non-governmental organisations archaeological practice further postgraduate training.

If you meet the following criteria, then you will be eligible to receive the scholarship: Have applied to study a full (180 credit) postgraduate taught course Your course starts in September 2023. Have graduated from the University of Dundee, having previously completed a full undergraduate or postgraduate taught degree If you are not a direct graduate of the University of Dundee, but someone in your immediate family is, then you are also eligible for this Scholarship. If you meet the following criteria, then you will be eligible to apply for this scholarship: Have applied to study a full (180 credit) postgraduate taught course. Your course starts in September 2023. Have an immediate family member who has studied at the University of Dundee, having completed a full undergraduate or postgraduate taught degree. Immediate family members include Siblings, Children, Parents and Spouses. Where eligible, this scholarship can be combined with one of the following scholarships: Global Excellence or Global Citizenship or Vice-Chancellor's Scholarships (one region only) Only one Alumni award can be awarded, either the direct graduate award or family award. The value of this scholarship varies depending on your fee status: For Home and RUK applicants the value of the scholarship is £1,500 GBP, for 1 year only For International applicants, the value of the scholarship is £3,000 GBP, for 1 year only.
